Cocoa is Internet Authoring for Kids.
Cocoa allows anyone to create interactive media and easily
integrate it with the World Wide Web.
We suggest that you begin by reading the Cocoa Vision
Statement.
What Do You Build With Cocoa?
You build Cocoa worlds. A world is a place that you create
with the Cocoa software. It all starts with your ideas about
something you want the computer to do. Play an animation. Or
make a sound. Or both.
You then teach Cocoa what these ideas should look like. You
can draw characters and make them do things. You can add
interaction, for instance make a sound when two animated
characters meet on the screen. Or when you click on them with
your mouse.
Then Cocoa will show you on your computer what they would look
like.
Cocoa is like a piece of paper that you draw on, only the
paper is your computer screen and your drawing pencil is the
mouse. And, of course, you can put your worlds on the Internet
for other kids to play with.
Go to Sample Worlds to see what a Cocoa world looks like.
What Can You do with Cocoa?
You can:
* Build interactive worlds with characters you draw and
animate
* Build your own video games and play them right inside a
Web page
* Create a simulation of a natural process, like a flower
garden or a pond
* Draw a living picture book that never reads the same way
twice
* Add custom interactivity and multimedia to any Web page
...without even learning HTML
And you get to learn the basics of object-oriented programming
while you're having all this fun...without needing to know any
weird language commands! Because Cocoa is based on what we
call Programming by Demonstration: you just show what you want
to have happen in a given situation, and Cocoa does the
programming for you...automagically!
